The "BOSS" was here
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band started their European tour in Madrid last night. They were all here except for Danny Federici who stayed in the States and was replaced on this tour by Charles Giordano who had worked with the band on their previous tour.
The 15,000 spectators, including King Juan Carlos' children were in attendance for the big night at the Palacio de los Deportes of the Madrid Community.
Springsteen and Co. had the floor vibrating. There is a reason he's called the BOSS. He makes things happen. He makes the audience move. His energy is contagious. During his performance he switched from one guitar to another, played the harmonica, and had the audience clapping and flinging their arms in the air.
He played his classics "Born to Run" and "Dancing in the Dark". He included songs from his album "Magic". He connected with his audience and they loved it.
Bruce's Spanish isn't great, but no one seemed to care. He sang in English, which a large number of those 15,000 people DON'T understand, but they understood his message! He's in his late 50's now, but he attracted a crowd of all ages. He communicated his enthusiasm and vitality and will for many years to come.
Springsteen's music, as that of many other musicians of our time, crosses oceans and cultural boundaries. Music unites us. Maybe it isn't necessary to learn English, or Spanish or Chinese for that matter. Music is really the international language. Don't you agree?
